Microsoft today announced that customers who purchase via Volume licensing (which is the majority of businesses I’d have thought) will be able to order Windows 7 from September 1st!
Another Windows 7 announcement from the 1st day of Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference 2009 was that there will be a 6 month promotion making Windows 7 up to 15% cheaper than Vista.
The Windows 7 Release Date has officially been announced by Microsoft. The most important OS related date for a LONG time is:
October 22nd 2009
That is the day that Windows 7 will be generally available…and I can’t wait! Less than 5 months to go until we can all get the latest & greatest OS in all it’s glory 🙂
Microsoft have confirmed that this is the General Availability date they are aiming towards and technology partners such as HP are confident it will happen. Phil Mckinney, CTO of HP said:
“We’re locked and loaded for the launch…The quality of code is just absolutely stellar.”
At today’s TechEd, Microsoft revealed that Windows 7 will be available “by the holiday period” (so by Xmas); this was their first public announcement that Windows 7 will be with us in 2009, rather than early 2010.
Windows 7 could be here sooner than we all thought according to Mary Jo Foley and Long Zheng.
Long spotted the following text on the PDC website:
“Be one of the first to see what’s new in Windows 7 and be among a select few to receive a pre-beta build of Windows 7. Join us as WinHEC 2008 – Register today. WinHEC is the only chance for you to engage with the team at this level – there is not another WinHEC planned before Windows 7 is released.” (bold my own)
and then Mary Jo Foley says:
“When I searched the Web for “WinHEC 2009,” it looks like the next WinHEC seems to be slated for New ORleans from MAy 3-7, 2009 (although Microsoft potentially could postpone next year’s WinHEC to late fall, like it did this year).”
Could Windows 7 really be out before May 2009? I don’t think so-that just seems too early..but we’ll see what happens so watch this space! 🙂
