Azurelight


Microsoft Architect Aleksey Savateyev is building a basic product support app…that is based in the cloud and is to be called “Azurelight”. It will collect feedback about products and allow users to exchange opinions on the products too. “It’s also intended to be used by developers as a reference application utilizing both Windows Azure and Silverlight for rich yet scalable and highly available business solutions…” as described by Savateyev himself.

Mary Jo Foleyreports that as well as utilizing Azure & Silverlight (as it’s name suggests) Azurelight will also use Microsoft’s ADO.NET Entity Framework, ADO.NET Data Services (aka Astoria) and SQL Data Services.

Once it’s all up and running “sometime in the summer” of 2009 (via MSDN it seems) this should be a great example of what Microsoft’s technologies, both cloud and programming, can do 🙂

I’m excited about this program and as the source code will be released Free of Charge, I hope I’ll be able to make full use of Azurelight!

PDC 2008 Wrap Up


I think we can all agree that the PDC 2008 was pretty special. Azure, Windows 7, Office Web, Azure Services, Live Mesh..the list goes on. The sheer amount of information given out at these conferences often means that we miss bits that are interesting and/or pertinent to our jobs & lives (this was certainly the case when I was at the WPC in Houston!).

Fear not, as Mike Swanson over at MSDN Blogs has put together a wonderful collection of all the Keynotes and sessions, and where possible he’s included the Powerpoints and sample code!

Quake on Silverlight = Quakelight


Quake on Silverlight exists and is called Quakelight, this is thanks to Silverlight 2 and some pretty sweet skills!

You can find out more over and check out the video over at MSDN Channel 9.

I’m excited about this as I was a BIG quake fan (FRAG HIM!!!) back in the day and it’d be pretty quality to have Quake available to play online…

Microsoft Silverlight on Mobile Devices


Microsoft Silverlight will soon be on Mobile Devices..which can only be a good thing for enhancing the mobile experience of both consumers and business users.

More information will be revealed at the PDC 2008 (I seem to be saying that a lot!) as we can see from the session description:

In this demo-filled session learn how to extend your existing Silverlight 2 applications to work on Windows Mobile and how to build rich mobile Silverlight apps that access device peripherals such as camera; GPS or WiFi or the radio stack for location; as well as mobile web services. We also talk about tooling enhancements in Microsoft Visual Studio that support Silverlight app development on Windows Mobile, what to consider when delivering eye-popping UI on mobile, and help you understand the key differences from developing Silverlight apps for the desktop.

I’m excited to see what Microsoft can do with this..particularly as Adobe don’t seem to be taking Flash for Mobile Devices quite seriously..come on MS, make it easier to enjoy rich content on the move!!
